Hello I’m Alan Ray the Development and Maintenance Manager here at Cairn Property and Estate agency.
In this role I’m responsible for all reactive maintenance. I liaise with tenants, landlords and external parties on various issues including insurance claims and works. It’s my job to source new contractors, meet with them at development projects, then manage works on site on time and within budget.
I agree costs with both contractors and landlords and try to keep everything running smoothly.
I’ve been at Cairn for three months now and its flown in fast, my background is in building surveying. My interest in learning how buildings work and function led me to work in the property industry.
Personally, the best thing about working in this industry is managing a project from start to finish and delivering the required results. I really enjoy being involved in various projects in a range of different buildings and being consistently provided with challenges and problems to solve.
My role allows to me to do things with a great degree of autonomy and have my say on how things are done. I enjoy working with the team at Cairn and know I can rely on them for support on a daily basis.
So far, the most unusual thing I’ve encountered at Cairn was the discovery that a reported ‘fishy’ smell in a bedroom turned out to be the remains of a seagull under the floor!
When I’m not at work I enjoy travelling and try to holiday at home and abroad as often as I can. I am also a big supporter of a certain East End of Glasgow football team and go to most matches. Days out with my young nieces and nephew and nights out with friends keep me busy too.
When I was younger I won a report writing competition in which I had to write a match report on an old firm game and subsequently got to spend the day as a ‘journalist’ in the press area of Hampden Park reporting on a rather less than glamorous game between Alloa Athletic and Queens Park!
